We are going to discuss a favorite topic of mine called supplementation. Specifically we will talk about protein drinks for muscle building, but first I want to give a little scientific breakdown of how our muscles grow. You see when you work out your muscle fibers are experiencing a sort of trauma. When the workout is over there are microscopic tears in your muscle fiber. When they repair they are stronger and normally bigger as well. That is why you gain strength and size in your muscles when you weight lift. One of the biggest factors in the repair of muscles is protein. I like to call protein the healer because it repairs muscle fibers faster, thereby letting you get bigger in the process.
There are all sorts of protein drinks for muscle building. If you go to any nutritional store there will be dozens of brands to choose from. First you must decide what type of protein product you want to get. There are two kinds of proteins products: protein powder and meal replacement shakes. The only difference is the meal replacement has more calories typically. So when choosing a product you must make sure that there is at least 24 grams of protein per serving. Most people will be drinking 2 to 3 shakes a day so you will be getting approximately 50 to 75 grams just from your shakes. This is important because you will have to eat less protein if you are getting it from the supplement. Once you find a product that has the required number of grams then you must choose a flavor. This can be important because some flavors allow for you to put extra stuff in the shake. For example vanilla is easier to put fruit in than chocolate. Many companies like Designer Whey Protein and Optimum Nutrition have incredible tasting products in many flavors while fulfilling the required protein allotment.
Muscle Protein Shakes
I would personally stick with one of those two brands for protein powder and EAS for any meal replacement protein you buy. These are the best in the industry and also have great taste which is important. The main thing when getting protein drinks for muscle building is that you use them every day. They are an important piece of the muscle building puzzle and will help you to get stronger, bigger, and heal faster.
